| As I sit in my room with a group of people watching "O Brother Where art Thou?" I can't help but think about how people do not know how to watch movies.
Let me explain. People nowadays look at movies just for their plots or amount of A List stars in them and judge the value of the movie based on that. No longer is film an art to be valued but just a means of being entertained for a good 2 hours (sometimes).
M. Night Shamayalan is one of the best filmmakers I've seen. Signs and The Village (along with Unbreakable and the Sixth Sense) are remarkable films. Some may dispute the plots or how "the ending of the Village was so predictable" or whatnot, and therefore conclude that the movie was bad. Look at the rest of the piece of art that is the movie. I use M. Night as example because the plot not only makes the movie good, but also the the cinematography, the soundtrack, the editing, the dialogue, etc etc. Nobody looks at those aspects anymore like they should. Appreciate and value the art of film using all of its components. You may not like a movie, but base it on more than just the plot or how it ended or who was in it.
Take the movie "28 Days Later" for example. Sure, it may have had a psycho plot and very gruesome scenes, but the FILM was rad. They used digital cameras for a more rough look.... the scenes were beautifully crafted to make the watcher's emotions ebb and flow with the turn of events... the soundtrack added to the overall image of the movie. I loved that movie because of that... not necessarily because of the plot.
Does anyone else agree with me? | | |

Anyways.... I have a test in Stats which we get to bring a 5 by 8 notecard with notes on it (or an 8 by 11 sheet of paper) for the test then we get a second chance exam in our discussion groups that can replace the test score. Seriously.... most of the stress with come from choosing which notes to put on my card. Then I have a psychology test. Yeah, I totally didn't buy the book for that class, so this test should be interesting. Heh. I just keep singing "Great is Thy Faithfulness" over and over because of the words "all I have needed Thy hand hath provided." It's so true. Once I'm past Thursday morning, it's smooth sailing for a few weeks... next to all the busyness.
Lots to pray about. I hope the duplex thing gets worked out soon. I'm sure it will. I need to talk to my parents about the next semester situation (Amy.... we need to do that.).
OK off to study. PEACE. | | |
| Yes, I ganked this from Holly... and Amy....
This is NOT photoshopped!
The fellow in the picture is Larry Earley. He lives a few miles from Waco, in the very rural community of Calvert. He has 20 acres of land, and on it, a few cows and horses. Mostly it is just pasture land that is fenced in with woods surrounding him. His neighbor has complained for several years that wild hogs had been raiding his cattle feeders and salt licks.
Last month he saw what he thought was a cow in his pond and went to see if it was stuck in the mud and needed pulling out. When he got close enough to realize it was a hog, the thing made a charge at him. He had driven his truck down to the pond and carries a pistol in it (as any good Texas redneck would, and I say that with genuine affection). He got his handgun and when it came at him again, he shot it twice and killed it.
Wild hogs in Texas usually run from 100-600 pounds with a 400-pounder being a monster. Because this one had been feasting on grain for several years, it had grown to a mammoth size. When Larry took it to the processor, it weighed over 1100 pounds! The meat had no wild taste, as it was grain fed. Larry is quite the hero now--he had fed many fireman and provided the homeless shelter in downtown Waco with a couple of meals.

| Ahhh... I love Secret Saints week. It's a week we have every year where we are assigned a person to encourage once a day every day. Guys get girls and girls get guys. It's a fun time. I'm excited to see what peope will come up with this year. Last year some friends had a duel between the White Knight and the Black Knight for my friend Julianna. Then Megan got a huge group of people to meet a guy outside of his class, declaring it "Todd Day" and carried him back to his dorm. Fun stuff all around. I love surprises, so I hope the reveal on Saturday will be cool. I love seeing how people live out Hebrews 3:13... getting creative and taking time out of their days to do big things for other people.
Anyways.... I have a psychology test next week and I haven't even bought the book and I won't get another paycheck until after the test, so it looks like I'll have to drop the parentals a line here. hehe. Yay for being poor and huge run-on sentences like that one.
All right. Peace out. | | |
